What is homebound instruction?
Homebound instruction is academic teaching delivered at a student's home, or in a hospital or treatment facility, when a medical, mental health, or behavioral condition keeps them from attending school. Some states call it "home and hospital instruction" or "home, hospital, or institutional instruction." Einstein Tutoring provides one-on-one homebound instruction taught by certified teachers, in person or virtually.
What is hospital and facility instruction?
Hospital and facility instruction is teaching provided on-site while a student is in a hospital or behavioral health facility, so their education continues during treatment.
What are compensatory services?
Compensatory services are make-up hours of instruction or IEP services that a student missed and is owed. We deliver those hours to help close learning gaps.
How is homebound instruction different from tutoring?
Tutoring supplements schoolwork. Our instruction replaces classroom learning: it is taught by certified teachers, aligned to the student's curriculum and IEP, and documented for the district, helping districts meet their FAPE obligations.
Do you offer virtual instruction?
Yes. Einstein Tutoring specializes in live, one-on-one instruction in person, at the student's home, in hospitals, and in treatment facilities. We also offer virtual sessions when they better suit the student's health or schedule.
Where do you provide services?
Einstein Tutoring provides services nationwide, partnering with school districts, hospitals, and treatment facilities across the country.
Which students qualify?
Students who can't attend school due to medical, mental health, or behavioral needs, including students with IEPs and those awaiting out-of-district placement.
What subjects do you teach?
We teach all core subjects for grades K–12, including math, English/ELA, science, and social studies, along with Honors and AP courses, world languages, electives, and test prep.
Do you follow the student's curriculum, and what if they don't have one?
Yes. We keep students current with their school's curriculum and assignments. If a student has no curriculum, which is common for students awaiting out-of-district placement, we provide it.
Do you follow IEPs and 504 plans?
Yes. Lessons follow each student's IEP or 504 plan goals and accommodations, in coordination with your special education team.
Do you offer reading and literacy support?
Yes. Our Wilson Certified teachers deliver structured literacy instruction for students with reading difficulties.
Who are your educators, and are they certified?
Our team includes certified K–12 teachers, special education teachers, special education paraprofessionals, and Wilson Certified teachers, with educators across all disciplines.
Are your teachers background-checked?
Yes. Every teacher completes a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and reference checks before working with students.
How do you protect student privacy?
We protect student information in line with FERPA and HIPAA requirements.
Who do you work with?
Einstein Tutoring partners with school districts, hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, and partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs.
Can you support larger facilities with multiple students?
Yes. We can serve multiple students within a single facility or program, assigning certified teachers to match each student's grade level, subjects, and IEP or 504 plan.
How do you work around a facility's treatment schedule?
We schedule instruction around therapy and treatment times, follow each student's IEP or 504 plan, and share session notes and progress reports with the facility and the student's school district.
How do we refer a student?
Contact us with the student's grade, subjects, IEP or 504 plan, location, and whether sessions will be in person or virtual. We assign a certified teacher and begin instruction.
How quickly can a teacher be placed?
Most placements happen in under 5 days, often within 3. Depending on the student's needs, some can take up to 14 days.
How are hours and schedules set?
The district sets instructional hours based on the student's needs and plan. We schedule sessions flexibly around your district's calendar.
Do you provide services in the summer?
Yes. We provide instruction year-round, including summer.
What reporting and support will our district receive?
Session notes after every lesson, weekly progress reports, attendance records, and communication logs, plus a dedicated district liaison as your single point of contact.
How are pricing and contracts set?
Pricing is based on two factors: whether instruction is virtual or in person, and the number of subjects the student needs. Contact us for a quote and district agreement.
Who pays for homebound instruction?
In most cases, the student's school district arranges and pays for it. Einstein Tutoring contracts directly with districts, so families usually don't pay.
